in command prompt? I found some commands online to try to change my name. My name is now "Mr. Bojangles". On the same site I saw the command for changing the computer name, command prompt wouldn't recognize the command. Also I was not able to change my name afterwards at all. message edited by brandonwashere
In Windows you can't change your user account name without creating a new user account, then removing your previous one. To change computer name:
Control Panel >> System >> Change Settings (near bottom on right).
For Linux, I don't know.
Use the "usermod" command to change the user name and "hostname" to change the computer name. You should read the man pages for both of these commands before using them.
@phil22 - The query was about Linux. But, it is actually very easy to change a user name in Windows - in fact it is often considered good security practice to change the name of the Administrator account.
