Specs: Windows 7
I had windows 7 on my desktop. my son changed it to Linux Ubuntu. I am having trouble connecting to my server and just frustrated trying to work out how to use linux. How can I restore my system to a time before the Linux disaster

You really didn't provide enough info but there is no way to "roll back". You will most likely have to completely wipe the hard drive & start from scratch. Boot off the Windows 7 DVD, wipe out the Linux partition, reformat as NTFS, then just follow the instructions. Make sure you have the Win7 product key, all the device drivers, & of course, your security software & programs so you can reinstall them all. Either that or learn how to use Linux. Too bad he chose Ubuntu instead of Linux Mint.

Why don't you tell your kid to fix it? He broke it.

You and he can work on it together if you wish.

When it gets fixed and you then want to try linux, put a virtual machine like vmplayer on it.

The owners manual has the proper way to fix the system. It may be that you needed to create or buy disks or use a hidden partition.
