I have Linux suse installed on my system, I have installed openbox window manager, and when i try to login to the user profile with openbox as the window manager option, the screen does not come and I am getting a blank screen.

I tried to start gnome session; from putty after logging into the user profile.
I executed the below command:

> gnome-session

It gives me a error as follow:
No protocol specified
No protocol specified

** (gnome-session:5742): WARNING **: Cannot open display:

Please help me with the issue.

I've never been able to open a display using putty. That has to be done from the console.

The openbox problem maybe caused by the xorg.conf file. It may have to be edited.
