Disk error 0x01

April 10, 2010 at 00:41:44
Specs: Ubuntu
My PC doesn't read ubuntu CD. I set boot from CD, but nothing happens. I read about program rewrite.exe. I made a diskette with sbm.bin and set boot - floopy. Loader appears and there are about 10 options to choose (CD-ROM, Removable, HD) but no matter which CD-ROM I choose i always get "Diskerror 0x01". I have an istalled iso image on CD. I tried to make a virtual disc from that image with daemon tools. What is strange when I open this virtual disc, the autorun doesn't start, I only can see what's on CD. I hope there is a solution.

If the boot order is set correctly in the BIOS (floppy, CD, HDD) but the system will not boot from the CD, either the disk is bad or the CD drive is bad.

"I have an istalled iso image on CD"

You converted it using a program such as ImgBurn, right? You didn't simply copy the .ISO file to the disc? You don't need to boot from a floppy 1st...the problem is most likely with the disk.

Of course not. I used LiveCD. But when I mount this image on virtual disc I also cant run it, isn't it strange? Cause on ubuntu site it says that desktop version can be installed from Windows.

Of course not what? Don't mount anything. Burn the ISO using ImgBurn & boot directly off the disk!

If you want to actually install it to the HDD, boot into Windows, then pop in the disk...install Ubuntu using Wubi. It should be built-in, if not, get it here:

How the heck do I know that? I have no idea of your computer knowledge.
