I could use some recommendations for a Linux distro for a Dell D400 laptop. I am looking for a distro that uses either LXDE or Xfce as a desktop and has repository installations as most Linux software seems to have gone that route for installs these days. Sadly Linux Mint has done away with their LXDE version otherwise I'd consider that route. I had run Linux Mint 11 Katya before on this laptop last year and noticed that Gnome ran a bit heavy on system resources. The installation self destructed on me after 6 months of use as well. The only thing I could determine was that file read access was being denied for some strange reason even though the read permissions were set correctly. I backed the system up when I realized that I was not going to be able to fix the problem. I am hoping I can restore some of that stuff from the backups on the new Linux system without reinstalling.

Puppy Linux 5.2.8 (Lucid Puppy (Ubuntu-Compatible Build))
Linux Mint Debian 201204 has Xfce Desktop

Googling is quicker than waiting for an answer....

I have three Dell C400s.

I like Crunchbang, but not openbox, so I load it then: sudo apt-get install xfce4 xfce4-goodies.

It is based on Debian Squeeze
