Specs: Windows 7
brought a secondhand iphone 4 off facebook, an i dont know who the previous carrier is, so id like to change what ever i need to change the carrier to vodafone.

Used phones might cause you some trouble. I presume thought if you have already purchased a sim card, you can activate it here:

That was a really bad idea. There are two types of standards for cell phones, GSM & CDMA and they are not interchangable so hopefully the phone you bought is using GSM which is what Vodaphone uses. Also, if the phone was originally purchased from a carrier and not directly from Apple, the phone will be locked to that carrier and only that carrier can properly unlock it without hacking.
