When syncing my iPad I get a dialogue box that says my purchased items are not in iTunes and I should put them in the iTunes library. The apps do appear under APPS, but in the iTunes Store there is nothing. How do I get them from my iPad to the iTunes library?

You said in your previous post that you have two iTunes accounts. Whether the items show up may depend on which account they were purchased under.

If the accounts are held by you and a significant other to whom you are not married or closely related, then having two accounts probably makes sense. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense to buy music, books, videos, and the like that members of the family can't share among their computers and iThingies without the hassle of logging out of one account and logging into another.

Unless I'm misreading your situation, just click on Okay and iTunes will copy them from iPad to computer.

I'm not sure that that's the case. When I get that warning, I always hit the "cancel" and then go to the File menu and simply select "Transfer purchased from iPhone" (obviously, I'm on an iPhone, not an iPad, but it should be the same). It then goes and copies stuff over immediately. Then I do the regular sync.

Usually what appears to get synced by the "transfer purchases" selection are apps that I've updated directly on the iPhone, as well as the occasional podcast that I've downloaded directly on the phone. I don't have iTunes automatically sync any of
the media files - I always manage media manually. It may behave differently if you have it set to automatically sync various media files.

Plain Bread alone for e-mail, thanks. The rest gets trashed.

I did a quick look at the iPad support website. Your ".....go to the File
menu and simply select "Transfer purchased from iPhone" was exactly the answer. That's the part I didn't know about. Thanks. We're all up to date now !

You're not misreading it...at least I don't think so. But if I click ok it it just proceeds to sync, but not copy....the message actually reads something like you have items that you've purchased that aren't in your library. You should add them. Thing is, it doesn't say how to go about doing that!

I've seen that happen when I've moved content from its place inside the iTunes directories over to a backup drive. You might wander through iTunes listing of your content, and look for a little exclamation point icon at the left column for things it can't find.
