move iPhone apps to PC

How do I move iPhone apps into my library. In order to update my iTunes on my iPhone, which I'm constantly being asked to do, i'm supposed to move my purchased apps into my library. i don't know how to do this, so I skip all the updates, which is not the best thing to do. I just need to know how to get the little $1.99 buggers into my library, not to use, but to have. And when I do the update, will I have to re-install the apps on the iPhone? Or should I just go and pound sand, that seems so concrete.

Just do the update. iTunes should do everything automatically. It keeps prompting me with this meaningless dialog when I update the OS, but I've never lost anything yet.

I would love to do that , but my office mate had the opposite experience and lost a bunch of apps. But he's always having interesting issues with things electronic!

Your apps, if purchased on iStore, are attached to youyr Apple account, not to your pdevice. You should not have any problem restoring everything, just login back to your AppStore account. It should download automatically. Apple got you covered, don't worry about anything, just do it.
