Solved Less than full screen on tv

April 14, 2013 at 06:11:30
Specs: 6.1.3 current t version of apple system
I just hooked up my ipad3 to my tv using the apple connector and the hdmi cable. Works great in both portrait and landscape mode, but does not fill up the entire screen on the tv. BTW my tv is 55"

Is this normal or is there a way to fill the entire screen?

Thanks

Bill

Most new flatscreen TV's have an option to zoom or stretch. Try the zoom option to fill the screen. Using this however will cut off the top and bottom of what you see on your iPad. You can try the stretch feature as well, this will not cut anything out of the picture but it will look odd as everything will be widened.

The display resolution setting on your iPad is smaller than the resolution required for a 55" screen, hence it does not fill the screen.

Unless your iPad has a utility for changing the display resolution (and I don't have an iPad so I can't answer that) there is nothing you can do about it.

Thanks, I don't have any special app so I will leave as is and not worry about it.

It's not a display resolution issue, it's aspect ratio. The iPad has an aspect ratio of 4:3, high def flat screen TV's have an aspect ratio of 16:9.

THX

I just hooked up my ipad on the TV and then went to the zoom feature, it worked !! Got a full screen. When looking through the various apps on the Ipad, some don't zoom if they are framed in a screen. I have an ABS app that goes through 10 ab routines, and the screen shot of the instructor does not zoom. But again other apps did zoom

Thanks for the great tip. I hope others can benefit from these posts.
