I cannot get itunes to see my ipod, it keeps coming up with the message "The software required for communicating with the ipod is not installed correctly, please reinstall iTunes to install the ipods software."

I have completely unstalled all apple products from my pc also removed all ref to itunes and ipod from the registory. have run CCleaner, personally removed all directories and file associated with my ipod and itunes rebooted downloaded the latest itunes installed it started itunes plugged my ipod which windows 7 see's ok and the same message comes up again. I have carried the instructions apple recommend to the letter and I still get the same message. I have reinstall over 20 times now. Can anyone help me as I have ipods which is unusable if I can't up date the music

I am not using W7 right now, but I'm wondering if you might try runnng itunes in compability mode. I haven't looked at that for awhile, but there should be an option for compability with XP, say. I assume that everything else runs OK with itunes in W7 ?
