Is the screen on the iPad a true HD screen? I realize it can play HD videos, but I want to know if it really supports the true HD resolution.

Technically, no. According to Apple's Specs, the screen resolution on the iPad is 1024x768. A true 16:9 HD signal is 1280x720.

So, as you can see, the iPad cannot show the full horizontal lines of resolution for true HD.

However, I wouldn't be too concerned about this. First of all, the system comes with a very good screen and algorithms for showing HD video. Secondly, on a screen that small--well at least relative to HDTV screens--I highly doubt you would be able to see any difference.

The bottom line is that HD videos should still look great on the iPad even if it's screen doesn't technically support all the resolution.
