ipod error USB Device not recognized

Specs: Windows 7
I bout an Ipod Touch 3g 32GB from a friend. Im under the impression that it was jailbroken. As soon it went dead I could no longer get it to load past the Synch with Itunes Screen. Ive tried putting it in recovery mode and nothing is working. Ive got 2 other ipods that I was able to reset and change the pswd to so i know how to fix that problem. My Question is how would i get the ipod to be recognized by my computer and ITUNES. Error: USB device not recognized!

Hi there,

This is the Apple advice article for the problem you describe:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369

Though I am having a similar problem (iPod not detected by iTunes - actually iPod appears to be preventing iTunes from opening! - though it is registering as an unformatted drive in Windows), and the relevant Apple article hasn't done me any good. Still one of the possibilities they consider might be your problem.

Incidentally, how do change the password on an iPod? I tried to reformat mine using HP USB format utility but was told it was write-protected, and neither I nor the previous iPod owner have any idea how to disable write-protection!

Cheers,

Mark
