Solved Ipad not charging when connected to computer

October 19, 2016 at 14:38:36
Specs: Windows 10
I have an iPad air. My last computer was an Asus and no problems whatsoever charging with USB. I now have a Lenovo. iPad is only charging when the battery is 96% or up. If it's less, the iPad keeps going on and off (the charge), iTunes goes on/off and battery continues to drain. It must be the computer as the iPad charges fine on my Asus laptop. I use both at the same time so this issue MUST be resolved. The weirdest thing is that my iPod touch charges fine on this computer (Lenovo). I'm going out of my mind as I tried all fixes. I tried a (brand) new USB cable and that doesn't work either. Any idea???

Hmmm - very odd situation... But at least you have managed to resolve it; though quite why resetting the computer (by that I take it you mean re-installing the OS) resolved it - who knows...

It might have been a chipset issue or possibly something to do with the usb hub/bridge etc. within the computer and its associated drivers etc? Possibly when you "reset" it all you replaced (as in installed anew) whichever bit of software (drivers?) that was not as it might or ought to have been?

Thanks for posting back too with how you "phyxed it" - doesn't often happen...

Are you sure the usb port/s is/are able to provide the charging current required?

Not all (if any) of them may be.

There are usb hubs which allow charging on some pf their ports, but not all. There is a D-lnk usb hub like that.

Also it may be that the usb cable you're using may not be fully to Apple specifications, with regard to power connection?

I never had this issue before on any computer. Why suddenly would the USB port not give enough power? The problem is the on/off. If it's over 95% it charges perfectly fine. It's very very weird. And the USB is a genuine Apple cable.

How old is the ipad (air); and from where did you buy it (e.g. N. America, UUk or Europe)?

Have run the battery flat and tried to charge it then?

Also what happens if you use an external Applr or similar (usb) charging unit?

To answer your questions: It was bought in the US and it charges perfect on a wall charger.
I resetted my computer, reinstalled everything and for now it charges. Let's hope it continues.
Thanks!

Very weird. I had the reset option with keeping all the files. So all the junk that came with the computer is out! PHEW! The computer had gone slow anyway so this was a great solution. The charge stopped going on and off but it looks like the charge is extremely slow. But as long as it stays the same % it's also good :)
Thanks for trying to help!!

(I had a filter installed which might have caused all the problems)
