iOS 4.2 Software Update difficulty

Apple Ipad wi-fi + 3g 64gb tablet

Specs: Windows Vista, Unsure but lots
I have been trying to download the iOS 4.2 Software Update for my new iPad. It takes about 15 minutes to load and at the end it flashes an X - unable to complete as I am timed out. What can I do about this as I am not able to obtain certain apps from the Apple Store.

What version of iTunes do you have installed on the unknown PC / Laptop which runs Vista as an O/S ?

The update is downloaded and uploaded via iTunes.......

Thanks for your reply. I downloaded the latest iTunes update before starting to download the iOS 4.2 - and had my iTunes library open - the downloading took at least 12 to 15 minutes but at the end, it couldn't upload into the iTunes saying it was "timed out". You seem to know an awful lot about computers and I don't - do you think I need a faster internet connection, or an expert to come and clean up my hard-drive. I'm 75 and it's all still a bit confusing. Thanks.........

I believe you will need to unistall all Apple Software and registry entries, reboot system, create a restore point, then install the latest version of iTunes from the Apple WebSite..

Revo Unistaller Freeware Version can be used to uninstall errant software:
