How do I do it simply, I'm new to using memory sticks. They are treasuref photos of a close relative who's no long with us. I'm worried about losing them if I do something wrong?

iPads do not have USB ports so you will need to transfer the pictures to your computer first either using iTunes or you can also do it in Windows Explorer. Then plug your memory stick into your computer and transfer the pictures to it.

Note: memory sticks are not good for long term storage and archiving, they are notorious for going bad. You best bet for backup would be to a CD-R or DVD-R and always store them in a couple different locations.

Can you confirm your actual computer and the operating system it uses. To copy/save photos to a windows OS or Mac system is relatively simple; after-which one can copy/save them from that computer to a memory stick - and ideally (and safer long term) to dvd as well.

If the OS is Linux then it appears to be not so straightforward from info I have found via google... So perhaps first confirm the computer/OS involved; and if it is possible for you to use say a windows or Mac system to do the deed?

Good catch trvlr, I didn't notice he said his OS was Linux.
