Solved How can I scrub ipad belonging to someone who recently died

Specs: iPad
My partner recently died. His iPhone account has been deactivate so cannot get text. How do I scrub his iPad Air without his Apple ID password (or cloud password or any of those?). I am not sure I would know his security questions. I would like to totally clean his ipad and give it to someone else who would use their own Apple ID. I had heard that apple would send a 2nd party authentication text to the phone but since his cell phone no longer has service, that won't work. Thanks

Sorry for your loss....

Here are the instructions. It's pretty simple.

You're going to run into problems with Activation Lock. The next person who tries to set it up will get a message about it being locked to the original owners account and will want the password. If you don't know it, then you can't go any further.

Your only recourse would be to find the original receipt along with the death certificate of your partner and take it to an Apple store to have it inlocked.
