Google search doesn't work-laptop or iPhone

Specs: Windows 7
A couple days ago after syncing my iPhone with my laptop I noticed that I get a blank white page with the Google search box at the top every time I try searching for anything. If I put in I get the following:

The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL:

The following error was encountered:

Unable to determine IP address from host name for
The dnsserver returned:

This means that:

The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL.
Check if the address is correct.
Your cache administrator is root.

What does this mean and is there something I can do to be able to access Google again? I can use Bing but I would like to know the cause of this problem.

Under Settings on your iPhone, is Google listed as the default search engine ? I'm not sure if that would help, but it's worth looking at.
