Changing Firewall permission on iPhone 5

December 3, 2014 at 23:48:49
Specs: iOS 8.1.1
Before upgrading to iOS 8, I was able to make online credit card purchases via my iPhone. Now it refuses and shows an error, telling me to change my Firewall permissions. I have no clue how and where to do that and what exactly it even means! I had no idea that iPhone even had firewall...
Can someone please help!!! :(

I'm not sure about the firewall response from the webpage? that you are trying to make a credit card payment through. My guess is it may be a standard response to a request it has trouble processing.

Seeing as this problem is new since the upgrade, my guess is that the iPhone has kept the same cookies and previous cached data from your previous credit card transactions. I'm assuming the upgrade took place and the iPhone has replaced your data from a backup. Now the cached data is invalid and the website is refusing to process the request, and rightly so.

Keep in mind this is all speculation so we will try a couple of things to see if you can get your online payments working again.

First close all open apps by double clicking the home button and swiping each app in turn upwards motion until you have closed them all.

Next navigate to your settings icon and navigate down to "Safari" and click. Scroll down the page until you get to "Clear history and website data" and click then confirm.

Now force reboot your iPhone by pressing and holding both the home button and power buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Release the buttons.

Once the phone has rebooted navigate to the webpage and enter your credentials and see if you can make an online payment.

Thanks for your thorough response, btk1w1! Unfortunately, it didn't solve my problem. I followed your instructions precisely, but the issue still persists. The problem seems to be in something else. With the error message, the website gives me the same recommendation: Please change your firewall permission. :(
Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance!!!

That's interesting.

Are you able to try a different browser such as Opera?

If you download Opera (it's free) from the App Store and try using it to perform your online transaction we can assess if the problem is browser related or iOS related.

Also have you tried performing the task using your mobile data and with the homes wifi?
