Hi there,
There are complains about drop calls on iPhones 3G. You are not alone.
Also your problem could be you are located in an area with a weak signal. Any cell phone is like a radio and a weak signal drops the connection. Use the signal strength bars to locate the best places and directions with the higher signal strength.

But also If you are still using iPhone OS up to 3.x use the iPhone’s “Field Test” mode to determine optimal reception levels.

1. To enter in the Field Test open the Phone app, bring up the keypad, type *3001#12345#* and press the Call button. The important point in the Field Test menu is the signal bars get replaced by a negative number. This number is the decibels the signal is measured from and the lower the better. Ex. -75 is better than -99. The ideal number should be -50.

Also:
2. Turn off 3G to improve performance and save battery life. When is ON the signal strength decreases.

3. If you are in an area with weak reception signal, hold the iPhone near the top. Your palm should not cover the bottom of the device.

4. If you use a head-set use a wired one instead of bluetooth.

In extreme cases keep your iphone connected to the USB power source. It can give you -3 DB improvements.

HI, Thank You very much for your advise,I will take all of that into account, what I ended up doing was taking the iphone to me telephone carrier and since I am on pre-paid they advised me that they have had alot of complaints about the same problem with other customers so they investigated it and found that the old sim cards were the problem so they gave me another updated sim card which seems to have a different set up on the back where it reads the sim card and so far so good it is working fine and my calls are not dropping out but once again I thank you for your time and effort in your advise,Take care.
