You need to understand video and still pictures before this
question can be answered. Jpeg is for still picture format,
mpeg is for video. Unless you are asking about taking
snapshots of you're video and saving individual pictures. So
what do you want to do?

3 suggestions.

If the movie is on a Quicktime format just pause the movie and drag and drop the movie frame to the desktop or any opened folder. You will see the image as "MovieClipping".

Another possibility is to pause the movie and use the key "Print Screen" on your keyboard. Then open the Accessory app "Paint" or similar image editor and paste the Picture file. With a little knowledge of copy/paste and select you could clean de image. Save as one of the available formats.

If you are watching a DVD movie I think these methods 1 and 2 wont work as the movie should be protected. But if you rip the movie using something like Handbrake then you could open the converted movie and use the suggestions 1 and/or 2. A bit time consuming but possible.

I think also you should look for a "video editor" software as it should allow you to save images from the supported movie files. My first internet search was Video Edit Magic and it supports this option.
