"Drivers loaded"

Does that mean you have a SATA hard drive & you loaded the SATA/RAID drivers from a floppy by pressing F6?

During setup, did it recognize the hard drive and did you create an installation partition?

the first Time It recognized it and I setup two Partions. Started formating stayed at 0% for about 1 hour. Turned power off and restarted. Found out it takes about 5-7 hours to do quick format. rebooted from XP CD and now I can not get to the sceen in XP setup where you can view the partions and start the install.
will Fdisk clear the partion?

I suspect that's because you aborted the format and now it doesn't recognize the disk. Did you get a disk with the new hard drive? If not, go to the manufacturer's page and download the utilities disk for the drive. You should be able to format it with the utility. If it's a sata, make sure you have the drivers for it too.

"no I let xp load all setup drivers"

If you have a SATA hard drive, XP setup doesn't contain the SATA drivers. I just wrote this "HowTo" this morning:
