HP doesn't appear to support XP on any of its Compaq Presario CQ series PCs. You might be able to find some XP drivers that would work - primarily you would need video, sound, and network drivers - but keep in mind that if you do downgrade the PC from Windows 7 to XP, you will void the warranty. Just make sure that if you do change the OS, you have the original OS install CDs in case you need to restore it.

Since HP only supplies Win7 drivers, you will have to identify the make/model of the motherboard chipset, graphics, sound, network, SATA & search them out.

I found your board at the HP site:

Chipset = NVIDIA nForce 430
Graphics = GeForce 6150SE
Sound = Realtek ALC888S
Network = Realtek RTL8201N

The above can be easily found by going to the nVidia & Realtek websites. The SATA driver is going to be the tough one. It's easy enough to find at the nVidia site, in fact, I think it's part of the nForce 430 download package, but knowing what to do with it is going to be a problem. You *may* be able to enter the BIOS & change the hard drive setting from SATA to IDE compatibility mode...if not, that's where you're going to have your problem. XP does not natively support SATA & will NOT install without the SATA drivers. Your system probably doesn't have a floppy drive & that how they are *usually* installed. And it has to be done at the very beginning of the installation. Your only other option is to create a new XP CD with the SATA drivers slipstreamed into it.

You're not considering this because you don't like Win7, are you?
