xp cd to usb drive

Specs: win7 ultimate, 2.8amdx4/12g ram
i have a dell xp sp2 cd that i want to set up onto a usb drive for install onto a netbook. i have formatted the usb drive and used wintoflash to load the xp onto the usb drive. but when i try booting to the usb drive. i get the hal.dll error. any thoughts plz help

Make sure first that you have XP-compatible drivers for the machine.

ok its an acer aspire one netbook. i want to load xpsp2 onto it from a usb drive....the computer im using to make the usb xp bootable is running win7. so how do i make this work...plz guide me

It may not happen if your using a Dell install CD on an Acer Netbook. Most manufactures put hardware checking routines in their install discs to make sure it only works on their computers.
