Solved X1950 pro fan is wore out

Specs: Windows Xp sp3, Phenom II x4 970
x1950 pro saphire

My x1950 video card fan has had it. I have took it apart and oiled it three times. I got about extra two years out of my stock video card cooler. I'm past that the insides of the fan are eroded. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a video card cooler. I plan on upgrading my video card soon.

How effective would it be to zip tie a case fan to the cooler? Do i need some kind of homemade heat sink on the chips any ideas?

If the zip ties are out of the question? What is a good cheap cooling option?

✔ Best Answer
Run the PC with the side panel removed and direct a cold-air desk-fan into it.

You might be able to pick up a fan for about $10 or you might be able to do a "Rube Goldberg" on it. It's hard to say without knowing what it looks like, the size, how it mounts, etc. You can get a cheap replacement card with comparable performance for about $30-40? This HD 4650 for example:

yeah i wouldn't spend a lot of money on a cooler for such an old card wouldn't make any sense the cheap aftermarket cooler should be better then the stock one it came with anyhow.
