Working PC now stuck on Verifying DMI pool data

January 24, 2012 at 13:01:38
Specs: Windows 7, Intel
Custom built PC running windows 7 (dual boot with XP though haven't logged into XP for about a year now).
PC has been running fine with 1TB and 640GB hdd until last night. Came out of sleep mode and the PC froze trying to log in. I hard reset (nothing else was responding) and it could not get past the boot screen. I powered down and powered back up - I was able to get past the boot screen but it's now stuck at the Verifying DMI pool data step.

That was late last night so I decided to call it an evening and head for bed and do some research at work. Most indications seem to point to a harddrive/boot sector issue - is it possible the motherboard or controller is fried?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287553 , yes appears to be hardware related. HDD Controller going bad? Maybe; MUCH more likely is that the HDD could be bad/failing.

See Post #1 Here for info on how to test your HDDs.

Resolved. It was as simple as a bad cable. I replaced the cable and it now goes beyond the DMI verification step. So, even though the cable is bunk, it still allowed the hard drive to be detected in the bios.

Ah, good. I'd test your HDDs anyway.
