I have an old emachine laptop with winxp home. I bought a new hp compaq 6735b laptop with winxp pro. Can i mirror my xp home hard drive to winxp pro hard drive without losing winxp pro on new machine?
What is the best way to mirror info over to new machine with winxp pro?

You can't run the eMachines installation on the Compaq but if you just need the data, I suggest you copy it to a CD/DVD or thumbdrive & transfer it that way.

What is it you need to transfer to the new laptop? You don't need or probably want the OS. That won't work anyway. Same goes for the pre-install emachines programs. Any programs you supplied can be re-installed on the new laptop. There is a utility in WinXP that can transfer personal files and settings to the new laptop. I have never used it so I can't speak to it.

Ntbackup would do it.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
