Solved Windows Defender virus won't let me do anything

May 28, 2012 at 11:58:42
Specs: Windows Vista
I have a virus from windows defender. I downloaded Malwarebytes and tried to load it
onto the infected computer but it says something about incorrect C path. I double checked
the program on the working computer and it's fine. I suspect the virus is blocking everything. I am
NOT computer savvy...any other suggestions.

What do you mean you have a virus from Bitdefender?

Hang up and live.

I think MS replaced Windows Defender with MS security essentials

✔ Best Answer
Restart in Safe Mode with Networking (F8 at start up).
Do a System Restore to at least a week before you be began seeing problems. Restart back into Safe Mode.
Then download Malwarebytes but when you save the installer, change it's name (anything but leave the extension the same) and save it to the desktop. Then when you install it choose the custom options and change the name of the folder it is installed in (use anything, even: MyHelper). Update it and run it still in Safe Mode. Remove anything it finds.
Update your Antivirus program and run that also.
If either finds anything, rerun Malwarebytes to make sure it is all gone.
Restart in Normal Mode.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I don't think he's asking about BitDefender, he's asking about the Defender virus. It's another one of those fake anti-virus programs similar to Internet Security 2012. Could it be Windows PC Defender?
