Windows asking me to reformat my hard disk ne

Specs: Windows 7
2 days ago I copied picture files on my external HD and viewd all of them without problem, after two days I tried to view my data in the same externat HD but I could not, windows asked me to format my externat HD

NB: my external HD is read on my computer as a local disk and not removable disk as usual!

please help me to sort out this issue

Start > run or (win key + r) type cmd hit enter key.
If the external drive recognized as drive G then type this in command promt chkdsk g: and hit enter, if chkdsk find errors then type this chkdsk /f G: there is space between chkdsk and /.
