Solved Windows 7 Toshiba laptop USB ports: Are they USB2 or USB3?

March 4, 2015 at 10:24:45
Specs: Windows 7, 2GB
Win 7. 17 inch Toshiba laptop. 3 USB ports.
Need to use Memory stick, which is only USB 2 or 3 compatible. Toshiba documentation does not reveal this info. Nor does Control Panel (Device manager).
How do I determine ?

Try it and see. I would be amazed if any of your ports are not 2 or greater.

If you use a hub, the connection speed might fall to USB 1.1 speeds. Even then I think the stick should work. If the laptop came with Windows 7 I agree with ijack, it most likely is either a mix of 2 &3 or all USB 3.0.

I should have mentioned that my laptop is several years old - it came with an early version of Win XP but thanks for the clarification!

USB 2.0 came out in 2000, XP came out in 2001, so I still think it likely that you will have USB 2.0 on there.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

With XP and I believe 7 also, you can check in device manager. Expand the USB controller section. If there's an entry there for an 'enhanced' host controller then they're 2.0 ports.
