Windows 7 doesn't recognize 2nd HD

January 16, 2011 at 01:40:28
Specs: Windows 7, i7 940 8gig Samsung
I have been using an 80gig SSD as my only drive. I bought and installed a 1TB WD hard drive. My BIOS sees it, but, Windows 7 Profession 64bit does not. There are no jumpers (at least not like the old days) to set.

What's going on?

Asus P6T latest firmware, Win 7 64bit etc. etc. Everything else works fine.

When you say it doesn't see it, do you mean in 'My Computer' or Control Panel/admin tools? If you've only checked the former then it's because the drive needs setting up first - have a look in Control Panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management and see if it's recognised there, if so then right-click it and go through the setting up process, then it will appear in 'My Computer'.

You don't get jumpers because SATA drives use a dedicated connector for each one, you cannot piggy-back them as with PATA drives.

Great help. Thanks a ton!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had no idea about this. I'm a newB of sorts as I've been "outta the biz" for 8 yrs and many things have changed. Also Win 7 is a pretty big change too.
Hope I can help you out one day :)

Oops......... this is strange. It worked before, but, now my SSD is messing up and I had to reinstall Windows 7. After that, the 1TB drive is no longer available under "disc management".

? PLEASE help (again)!!!
