Hello, I have all my important documents on my external hard drive. I was always able to access
it. Yesterday I unplugged my external hard disk from my PC even though Windows alerted " The device is currently in use.'When I connected my External Hard Disk to my PC in this morning, Windows alert me to 'Format it for ready use.' with an alert box and I can not see my Hard Disk on the Device List.
Im worried all my data may be lost :(.
The external drive is an "Seagate - Expansion Portable Drive...250GB'.
any help/solution?
Geez, first you don't keep backups and then you ignore an important message. Look for the drive in Windows Disk Management.
Try running testdisk on it. Read the tutorials first. Get it at the link below.
Sorry, In Command Prompt (aka DOS Window):
attrib *.*
attrib /? will explain the codes:
R = Read-only
A = Archive
S = System
H = HiddenThen, make appropriate changes with + and - .
e.g. attrib junk.doc -H
removes the Hidden attribute on file junk.doc
Hi Please Try this Safe Mode.insert External Hard Disk.
Please see Your file is there or not Please Inform Me Now
I am now testing with TestDisk. Thank you for your help.
Let us know how you make out. Remember in the future to maintain at least two copies of any files you want to keep. I prefer to burn them to optical disk. Disks are cheap, reliable and can be duplicated very easily. Those photos you have on the computer are not replaceable. Treat them as such. Burn a copy then duplicate it and keep off site.
