"thats not the mobo in the dc5750 small form factor"

Sorry, I just googled the model number without adding "small form factor". See your other post - I think you'll be making a mistake upgrading to a quad. The HP Narra5 is based on an old chipset combo plus the Athlon II X4 you mentioned runs at a lower clock speed than your Athlon II X2. If you don't do anything that needs the extra 2 cores, you may see no difference or actually take a performance hit.

I do alot of multitasking usually recording tv with a usb ati 650 tv card while surfing the net an ocassonaly the ati cat sreen freezes up not sure that the quad will help but I got the quad for only 36 dollars off ebay I was shopping for a phenom 2 with 3.1 but they go for twice that I am hoping I wont lose any perf. I thought losing .1 would be countered by the two extra cores.

I looked at hps sites and still dont see where it says the socket type would my old proc work in that hp????

thanks for the help

This is your motherboard? A Narra5 like riider said in #5? If so, it's an AM2+ board.

AM3 CPUs are backwards compatible with sockets AM2 & AM2+.

"AM3 processors also support DDR2, they are backwards-compatible with Socket AM2/AM2+, contingent upon a BIOS update for the motherboard"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket...

Because of the old generation chipset, the HT bus is limited to 1000MHz, aka 2000MT/s.
