Why won't my speakers work with my docked computer?

October 28, 2015 at 12:19:59
Specs: Windows 7
I have a Dell laptop running Windows 7and recently purchased Logitech speakers to use with it. The speakers work great with the laptop itself but when I dock it to the big Dell monitor... nada. My Computer doesn't even show the new speakers in the Device Manager.

Are the speakers plugged into the dock or into the laptop?

Device Manager doesn't show speakers no matter how they are connected or what they are connected to, it only shows the sound controller (ie the sound adapter in your laptop, Realtek, Intel or whatever.

If your monitor has built-in speakers, the audio connector on the back is an "input", not an "output". It's not designed for plugging speakers in to it. You plug an audio cable into it, then plug the other end in to speaker output on your PC or laptop. That allows the monitor's built-in speakers to produce sound.

The speakers are plugged into the laptop... Its just a single post-type plug, with a green covering. I don't see where I can plug that into the monitor. Perhaps I need another cable (audio) from the monitor to the laptop?

Thanks for your reply!

As far as I can tell, the monitor does not have built-in speakers... that's why I bought the Logitech speakers. Nevertheless, perhaps I need to run that audio cable from the big monitor to the laptop?

Thanks for your reply!

You might have to plug the audio cable into the dock.

Now I'm lost. I need to see your TV & laptop, and whatever this "dock" thing is. Please post pics.
