Why the fan of my laptop doesn't function

Specs: Linux i686
I've got a problem with my laptop ( DELL latitude D 620), The FAN doesn't function in that motherboard; that is conducting to my PC to shutdown during my work, i'm already lose more work with this problem.
I severally ask myself, is the problem in the FAN, where the cable of the fan is connected or the motherboard itself??????
until now i seriously do not know what is the CAUSE and the probable SOLUTION
Can anyone help me??! Thanks for advance...!

Not without actually seeing the laptop - you have listed the possible reasons why the fan isn't working but without being able to physically check the fan, connector etc. it is impossible to diagnose.

If you are not happy about disassembling it yourself then take it to a local tech to look at.

does it have any dust or dirt build up in it if so clean that out with a can of compressed air.blow it out from inlet to outlet.that can be why it wont stay on because its getting to hot and shutdown which is normal

Mostly it would be the fan or possibly the connector. Motherboards don't often fail in this way.
