The first thing you need to do is try it in another computer. That will prove whether you have a computer problem or whether the drive itself is faulty.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Try using Windows Explorer to see if you can access it. Have you used that external drive on any other computer recently?

"I was trying it on other comps' - same trouble"
Seems then that the drive itself is faulty, so reinstalling drivers won't help.

"Any comp propose to format drive"
Sorry, I don't understand that - what do you mean?.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

If the computer ask if you want to format the drive then the drive controller is recognized.
It looks like the drive is corrupt or damaged.

Try to access the data on the drive with recuva or any other recovery software.

Look for the drive in Windows Disk Management. If it shows there then post ALL the information listed there for that drive.

Trying recovery software will be absolutely useless for this type of problem.

Recovery software (Recuva et al) only helps you recover data which has been accidentally deleted, over-written, or the partition accidentally re-formatted or deleted. but the drive itself has to be in full working order.

If Windows isn't recognising the drive, neither will recovery software.

IF the drive shows in Windows Disk Management but is labeled as RAW, then you have corrupted the files system (format type). You CAN repairs the file system using programs like Testdisk, or Easeus partition Manager.

DO not format at this time.

Get those utilities from the links below.
