why is my screen not detecting my CPU?

Specs: Windows Vista
I just bought a new desktop....with the screen and everything....
but when i connect the CPU to the SCREEN i get nothing....
the cable and screen are ok i've plugged them to my laptop and they work fine....
but when i plug my CPU to the TV i get nothing....it's TURNED ON....
i'm linking them with a VGA cable.....

any idea on what might be the prob?

Are you talking about a monitor you bought with the computer, or a TV? Just for the records, a cpu is the processor inside the computer. The whole unit is called a computer.
