Specs: Windows XP
I am running Windows XP and I have a FreeAgent GO 320 GB portable drive that my pc will not recognize The lights come on but nothing. I plugged it into my mom's computer and it works on hers. Now, back to my computer, when I plug in the USB plug into any of my ports, I get "Found New Hardware Wizard" stating that "This wizard helps you install software for FreeAgent Go but, there is no CD with this drive. I cancel out of that, right click my computer, manage, disk management and the only thing that shows up is WinXPSP-3 (C:) Healthy system under Disk 0 then below that is D drive (CD-ROM 0) then under that is E drive (CD-ROM 1), with both saying No Media. Now, when I go to Device Manager, it shows up as Other devices/ FreeAgent Go and when I click on it, it tells me that this device is not configured correctly. (Code 1) Can somebody please tell me what is going on here? It's nerve racking and driving me nuts. Thanks to any and all who can help me out.

next time the wizard comes up, even though you don't have the disk, don't cancel it out, continue on and see if it finishes. If it does not, go to the manufacturer of the products website and see if they have the usb driver for xp.

Does that external drive have an AC power supply or just the USB cable/s?

The device manager is telling you...you do not have the driver to run it installed, and you keep cancelling the wizard that loads it.

Get the software from the link below.

The software it is looking for is backup software. WinXP doesn't need any additional drivers to run an external hard drive.

Look for a little switch on the back - Auto or Manual - Switch to Manual - it could have gotten switched when you transported the Drive. Try that - Had the same issue....Worked for me..
