Solved Why does my IBM Thinkpad T43 need Date/Time reset at reboot?

Specs: Linux x86_64
My IBM ThinkPad T43 has started reverting to the default values of Date/Time when I first bought it. It seems to work fine once I reset these values to the current values at every reboot. Could it be that I need to replace the CMOS battery, as I bought the machine in 1989? Or, could there be some other problem with the BIOS?

Very likely the CMOS battery but I suggest you check your calendar. The T43 was 1st released in 2005. When your BIOS resets, what date is displayed?

"Launched in April 2005, the ThinkPad T43 and T43p laptops were the last T-series laptops manufactured for IBM."
