Solved Why does Asus not see DVD Rom?

October 11, 2017 at 04:18:46
Specs: Windows 8
Hi good people!,

My Asus P5G41T-M LX does not see the Sata DVD rom. It used to see it from the beginning, untill about 2 months ago, when something changed and now the DVD rom is not visible in "My Computer". I have changed the rom but no luck. During start-up the rom seems to 'start", or "boot" since the busy LED flickers but as soon as all is done, and I go into "My Computer", the rom is nowhere..

Could someone please shed some light on this for me?...thanks a lot!!!

I'm not sure what that means? Are you saying you went into the registry, deleted the filters as explained, then rebooted & the DVD drive still doesn't show in My Computer? Does it show in the BIOS?

Okay,

Good morning!!..Well guys this is what happened..I went to device manager to locate the GUID, and noticed two "ATA 0" entries, of which one had the yellow exlamation mark, and also two "ATA 1"'s, of which one also had the yellow. Anyways I got the GUID and proceeded to remove the filters. When I got to the GUID, there were no filters, so I went straight to the GUID list and located the GUID for roms. I found that ID and deleted the filters. Then rebooted but still there was no rom visisble in "My Computer". So I went back to Device Manager and deleted the entries which were yellow. I rebooted and still found no visible Rom in "My Computer". I went back to Device Manager and discovered that suddenly I had a "DVD Rom/Cd" entry!!!. Previously that was not there...When I expanded this entry, sure enough my Rom showed up..but still it was not visible in my computer. So I went to disc management and saw the drive there. I then inserted an audio disc and as I did that, the ROM showed up in "My Computer". So all is working fine again, I'm just not sure if the deleting of the filters in conjunction with the deletion of the Yellow ATA's did it, or was it only the deletion of the ATA's...It does not really matter, I'm happy it's fine again. Guys, thank you very much for being out there!!!
