Solved Why did my burner stop working?

Specs: Windows 7 64b, toshiba satellite/4GB
I am working on my sister's laptop, and it has stopped burning discs properly, CD's and DVD's. She has been using WMP to burn, and has started getting an error messsage, "Windows Media Player cannot burn the files. If the burner is busy, wait for the current task to finish. If necessary, verify that the burner is connected properly and that you have installed the latest device driver. " It will try and burn, amount of tracks varies, but at some point it always displays that message. I have tried updating the driver, using different burning software (CD Burner XP, and Ashmpoo), using a conversion program to make sure the audio files are all the same, and a few others. Its a fairly new PC, bought in February, although I do know Toshiba has a thing with its disc drives going out. Anyone have any idea how to go forward? Thanks for the help.

Yeah, it's probably bad. Most of them tend to be cheap pieces of crap anyway. You can try a cleaning disk and maybe different burner software--I'm not a fan of WMP--but likely you'll end up having to replace it.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I have a Toshiba myself and my DVD reader went out about a year ago, I guess they are really bad about it. Anyway, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Thanks to both of you for the help.
