The RAM could be faulty or not compatible with your computer's motherboard.
You can test the RAM modules with memtest86 from here:

The CPU is a chip that fits in a socket on the motherboard.

If your computer won't boot after adding or changing the RAM, either the RAM is incompatible or it's installed incorrectly. The CPU has nothing to do with it. Did you unplug the power cord before messing around inside the case? Does the system beep when you attempt to power it up?
