Why can't I open a DVD-RW with a CD-RW drive?

Specs: Windows XP
I am trying to burn a powerpoint presentation with voiceover onto a dvd-rw. My drive is a CD-RW. The drive doesn't recognize the dvd in the player. It shows that the file has been copied over but I can't open it to ensure everything was copied over (slides & voice). Help ...

The answer is, CD drives can't read DVD's

cd writer is capable of read & write cd.
If u want to burn dvd u will need dvd writer.

Most CDRW writers also read some DVD media. If the drive sis old enough to not be a DVD writer also it may not be capable of reading some flavors of DVD media. Then again, if it is old enough it may not be able to read ANY DVD media.

If the drive is capable of writing DVD media the label on the door will indicate that.
