Which option is better for schooling with some casual gaming

Specs: Windows 10
I have narowed my search down to two options for a new laptop for college, and I will probably play some games on it here and there, but I need to know which option is better for my money.

There is a 15.6" Dell Laptop with in i7-7500U, a 256 GB SSD, 8GB of DDR4, and an Intel HD Graphics 620 card on sale for 599$
or
There is another Dell with the same specs except the processor is an i5-7300HQ and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics for 799$
Which would be better suited for my needs for a 5+ year laptop

It would help to know the model numbers of each. The obvious difference other than CPUs is the graphics. The 1st one has good specs for a decent price. The 2nd one is a gamer with a discrete graphics card which is why it's more expensive. You can play some games with HD Graphics 620 but on lower settings. I suspect the gamer laptop will be more power hungry & have a shorter battery life between charges. None of us can project 5 years into the future, but either one should be OK.

The Dell with the i7's model number is i5567-7526GRY, which I found as Staples.
The Dell with the i5's model number is I7567-5650BLK-PUS, found at BestBuy.

Hi Spence,

suggest you consider a larger screen.

It will make a huge difference, especially for School Projects, when much is displayed and it does not help when Text etc. is on the small size.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
