Which laptop has the cheapest batteries?

Specs: Linux i686
...Just wondering: battery prices seem to be very variable, ranging from as low as £20 to as high as £60 --- often for different packs with exactly the same mAh rating. I've come across articles comparing various laptops on battery life, but not on battery cost. Does anyone out there know of a guide listing the cheapest models?

My experience with cell phone batteries is that once a particular model has run its course, the batteries become surplus and therefore cheap. I once bought OEM batteries for my Motorola Razr phone for $6 for a 2 pack. Still using them too.

When you buy a new model the only batteries that most likely will be available will be from the original equipment manufacturer, which will make them more expensive.

My advice is to use the battery life in hours of use to select the model. By the time you need a replacement battery they will be cheaper. The more popular the model was/is the more available replacement batteries will be. Some major manufacturers use the same battery for many different models.

OtheHill missed the boat on that one...LAPTOP Batteries

Your best bet is to look for batteries on Ebay, real inexpensive anymore.

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

I didn't miss the boat. I just wasn't clear enough. I was using the cell phone batteries as an example of how the supply pipe works. Same principles work for laptop batteries.

Sorry for the confusion.

As far a ebay goes, I wouldn't necessarily buy laptop batteries from there. You don't know to source. With all the issues surrounding Lithium Ion laptop batteries and the subsequent recalls I would be very leery.
