Which Barcode Label Printer to go for?

June 15, 2010 at 03:03:08
Specs: Windows XP
I am new to the world of barcode labels and need some advice and suggestions on which barcode label printer to go for? I have already been told that the Printronix and the Zebra range are very good but would like a bit more input.

Thanks in advance

You need to tell us which barcode you want to use and what type of media do you want it printed on.

Many printers either come with or have some software to design and or at least modify the printers.

If you want to print from some application you'd need to know if the application and your computer and OS will be work with that printer.

I support the 'Everybody Draw Mohammed Day'. A religion doesn't deny my freedom.

I remember a Zebra label printer gave me fits on XP, but that was like 4 yrs ago.

Just another stupid saying...

I've installed several Zebras on XP and they seem to work fine. They are very robust and will give you years of fine service. However, just as a heads up, Zebra's can be a real pain to configure and the instruction manuals look like they have been written by a 3 year old.

First consideration is the media. What size and quantity for
each batch. Label media is not the cheapest thing thing to
print and apply. Availability of label stock is important. You
can't buy labels at the nearby office supply. If you are a
small user you may have to buy a large quantity especially if
you have custom printing.

Some laser printers have barcode fonts built in. These would
save if you don't have a heavy demand.

For regular labels getting them printed is the cheapest.
