Solved Where is hard drive in Compaq Presario laptop CM2130?

August 18, 2018 at 14:20:32
Specs: Windows XP
I need to remove the hard drive but can’t tell where it is or how to remove it. It’s an old Compaq Presario laptop and no online videos match it. Thanks!

"I’m referencing the model series from the label on the back so it must be correct"

If you do a search using "Presario CM2130" it comes up as a model 700.

In one of the HP forums, it's said to be under panel #6 in this picture: https://community.hpe.com/hpeb/atta...

Could it be you're using the wrong model number? See if this looks like it: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/HP+Com...

Thank you, riider and T-R-A. Unfortunately none of these excellent tips worked; the laptop still doesn’t match up. I’m referencing the model series from the label on the back so it must be correct. Can’t locate any rubber screw covers either. So frustrating!

If I’m unsuccessful in locating and accessing the hard drive, any suggestions on easy ways to destroy it while it’s still in the laptop? Would immersing the laptop in a tub of water work? Thanks again.

Thank you, it does look like that. Now that I know where to find the hard drive I will search for a tool to open the panel. It’s clearly not for a screwdriver. Thank you.

Kill disk will write all zeros to the drive, then install a Linux operating system. hate to see a laptop destroyed when so many school kids could use it

Thank you for this suggestion. It’s a very old laptop (at least 12 yrs) and the cover/screen doesn’t even stay up. Can such an old machine be revamped/upgraded and put to use? I’m happy to donate it if so.
