Solved What types of programs use hyperthreading

Specs: Windows XP
I was looking into coputers and some reviews told me that the only difference between the i5 and i7 processors is that the i7 has hyperthreading enabled. What types of programs would I benefit with the i7.

Oddly enough there are only a few applications that can really make use of SMP. Out of those even less can use more than 4 cores. Only a handful can utilize the very newest processors.

If you have to work with photos or video, then I'd go with the i7. See cpu benchmarks for specs and dollar per cpu value charts.
