Specs: Windows Vista, Intel GMA 4500M
I have a compaq presario cq60-211DX. Want to upgrade the graphics card and the processor to something significantly better. MAinly for playing starcraft 2 but im also a musician and the processor issue is making my recording software lag and be almost unusable. Want at least a 2.6 ghz processor and I really dont know about the graphics card. I know that theres 2 or 3 types(maybe)depending on the slot for the card. Dont know what to buy and also dont want to pay a lot of money.

Intel GMA 4500M is the graphics card in right now and Intel Celeron 585 / 2.16 GHz is the processor

The graphics on your laptop are NOT upgradeable. If you want to play games, buy a desktop computer or a gaming laptop.

You could buy a new graphics card, but for the price it's just better off to get a new computer instead of a new processor and VGA, stay away from Celeron. s---ty ass processor.

I don't think Compguy1337 is much of a "comp guy" if he thinks you can upgrade the graphics in a laptop. Yes, there are some that are upgradeable, but the majority of those are high end machines.

Good gaming laptops start at about $1000 & go up from there, unless you're willing to settle for an 11" screen?

compguy is right, however, stay away from celeron or sempron. These are low end processors that skimp on performance resources in order to save cost. Its true that if you need a laptop, you will likely need to get one $1000+. But an average price desktop should suffice because they have much better performance for the $. The computer salesman will try to sell you too high, but generally, if you look for a computer that advertises anything about its graphics capability, you should be ok... if you have a Fry's nearby, they sell refurbished computers for good deals, and I know for a fact that they are legit. Also, if a Fry's computer salesman tries to sell you a refurb, its because he gets a better commission on those. I used to work there.

So I decided to just go all out and buy a high end laptop. Should I go for an alienware m15x or a macbook pro 15 inch? I know macs are great for recording guitar and stuff but i already have a great program and pre-amp for PC. So which is better for gaming?
