Hi all,

iv recently been given an NZXT Kraken x62 liquid cooler. This came with all the retention brackets for every socket type. However the only thing that is missing are the nuts that retain the cooler to the board via the standoffs.

Please see this picture it will hopefully make more sense.

https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/8...

The first photo shows the intel and AMD retention brackets. I have these along with the standoffs.

The second photo shows the standoffs for Intel and AMD along with the nuts.

It is these nuts I am looking for, I have searched for a variety of words on google and ebay but cannot find these anywhere. I have no idea of the thread type and size so cannot narrow the search down any better.

Do you guys happen to know what these are called and perhaps have a link on ebay (co.uk) please?

Thank you for your help as always..

AWTL

I think you can replace them with some motherboard standoffs like these:

https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1F7K9...

You can also contact NZXT if you have the purchase reciet(? dont know how to spell it):

https://support.nzxt.com/hc/en-us/a...
"Kraken X61/41/31 coolers carry an extended 6 year warranty. Any replacement product will be warranted for the remainder of the warranty period or thirty days, whichever is longer. Proof of purchase is required for warranty service."

Also they made a animated playlist that might help you mount the cooler:

Hi riider,

Yes those are the ones, I have googled, searched on ebay/Amazon but nothing meaningful back. If it knew the thread size I could potentially find something.

I have gone ahead and ordered the following in sizes M3 and M4

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Knurled-...

no idea weather they will work or not but in the absence for anything else I opted to give these a try.

I you know the thread sizes or a suitable alternative id be very appreciative.

Many thanks,

I assume by your link you're in the UK. Do you have a hardware store or the equivalent of a Home Depot or Lowes nearby? Just take one of the standoffs with you & find a nut that fits. That way you'll know the thread size. Also, you don't necessarily need a thumb nut. I see no reason why a standard nut couldn't be used. You might want to use a flat washer too.

I guess i was being a bit eager and perhaps, Hidde and yourself are correct, i dont neccessarily need to use the hardware that comes with the unit, i can improvise. I’ll have a play with it this weekend and see how i get on. I just wanted it to be perfectly installed but as you say any nut will do, and yes thats a good suggestion for a washer, didnt think of that. Thank you for your help

Hi Pappy,

Unfortunately the page where it itemizes all the fasteners etc, it has sizes for everything but the Thumb Nuts, it states 4x Thumb Nut........ I am sure these are pretty standard sizes but I don't know what the standard size is.

We used to have a shop here in the UK called Maplins, they recently, about 2 months ago, closed all stores, otherwise I would have been able to take the standoffs there are try a few nuts on.

I'll wait for my ebay purchase to arrive and keep you guys posted.

Thank you for your help

Sorry, my bad. I took a quick glance and thought the sizes were listed for the fasteners.

Ok guys

The nuts I ordered on ebay arrived, and I can confirm the nuts are M3 nuts.

Edit: just received an email from NZXT they have also despatached the nuts from the USA! Thats pretty impressive.
