Which hard drive? The internal boot hard drive? And you are determining this how? Does the computer boot into WinXP?

The internal and only hard drive , spins during the post of the motherboard and then turns off and then turns on again and then it stops and does not restart, No- since it does not continue spinning, it does not boot up into any operating system. The method I am using is listening and observing

Do you see3 anything on the monitor? If so, post what you see, including any error messages.

Post the model of your computer.

Do you have any restore or retail disks for WinXP?

Since it does not see the hard drive if I let the motherboard continue to complete the post, at the end it shows no hard drive found

thanks i thought i did- hard drive stops-then restarts then stops agaiun and does not restart. message comes up on screen that no hard drive is found- then continues. i have tried this drive on several models of different computers. i listen to the hard drive and it turns off after the second restart of the hard derive it stops spinning and never restarts thanks

Your first post infers you are trying to get a computer running, not troubleshoot a hard drive.

To troubleshoot a hard drive download the drive fitness test from the drive manufacturers site.
